North Reading, MA - 2nd Alarm + 11/26/09 : At 0635hrs North Reading Fire struck a Box Alarm for the area of 200 Swan Pond Rd for a reported house fire. First arriving companies found a fully involved one story woodframe cottage w/ extension to a large new construction 3 story woodframe house atop a steep hill. The area of this fire is in a heavily wooded area that borders a small pond, the involved structures were located at the end of the access road to the area, which is dirt and only wide enough for one car at a time. Water supply was a major issue as I believe the area is all private wells and the nearest hydrant was 1/4th or greater of a mile away though the woods. A 2nd alarm was sounded shortly after plus multiple special calls for engines and tankers. Firefighters were able to save a nearby threatened exposure as the radiant heat was intense, however the two fire buildings collapsed into themselves. A tough fight for the firefighters on scene due to the limited access and lack of water. Companies operating on scene were NRFD C1&C2, Engines 1,2,3,4, Mutual Aide consisted of Reading Engine 2, Lynnfield Engine 2, Wilmington Engine 4, Boxford Engine 4 (2,500gal tanker), Middleton Engine 1, Middleton Engine 4 (8,000gal tanker) and Essex Tender 1 (2,500gal tanker), Action ALS and Rehab 5. Both structures were unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported.

Lawrence, MA - 3rd Alarm - 11/6/09 : At around 1830 hours the Lawrence Fire Department transmitted a telephone alarm for a reported fire in a mill building. Arriving companies found a fire in the former Merrimack Paper Company, located at 9 South Canal Street. A second alarm was sounded on arrival followed shortly by a third alarm, later in the fire Lawrence Fire Group 3 was recalled for extra manpower to the scene. This property was a large mill complex, the fire building being a mixed 1 to 3 story brick construction typical of Mill buildings in the area. Access was limited to companies due to that the C side bordered the Merrimack River, and it was bordered on the A side by a small canal. The building was vacant and posted as such, there fore any attempt at an early interior attack was quickly abandoned for exterior operations only. Not many different angles to shoot from due to the restricted access but I hope you enjoy.

Saugus, MA - Working Fire - 10/8/09 : At 2202hrs, Saugus Fire Alarm received a report from Revere Fire that the were reciving multiple calls of a structure fire at the old Atlantic Lobster building on Rt 107 (Salem Turnpike). The portion of 107 where this building is located is extremely isolated running through a marsh and it is a divided 2 lane road with no access, due to this, the first arriving companies had an approximate 10 minute response, which gave the fire an excellent head start. The building had been vacant for sometime and was in the process of being demolished, Saugus S1 was first on scene and reported a working fire with a building fully involved on his approach to the building. Saugus kept the fire at a working fire level with a Wakefield Engine as RIT team. Due to the isolated location, only one hydrant was in the area, and only enough water pressure to run one large gun at a time, eventually a line was stretched to hit the hot spots, companies had the fire knocked down in about 2 hours.

Police on scene reported smoke from 2nd floor of a garage attached to a large 2.5 story wood frame, newly constructed approx. 40 bx 100. Engine 1 arrived on scene and reported a working fire. Fire was caused by a lighting strike, which had hit within the previous 45 minutes as a thunderstorm passed through the area. Reading and Middleton engine companies operated on scene as well, I live literally 30 seconds away from this address and arrived as Engine 1 was stretching in, not allot to see as they made a quick stop on the fire.

Danvers, MA - 3rd Alarm - 9/8/09 : At aprox. 1:45pm Danvers Fire Alarm dispatched a box alarm for a reported fire on the roof of the Town Hall Building at 1 Sylvan St, unoccupied, undergoing renovations. The fire was reportedly started by a working welding copper flashing, the fire appeared contained to the D side of the building in the roof area. Firefighters had a difficult time gaining access to the fire due to the construction and had to open up multiple areas both on the roof and inside the building, the fire was placed under control approximately 2 hours later. I arrived after the 3rd had been struck, just time to catch the last visible fire darkened down, and had to shoot through a forest of utility wires.

Marblehead, MA - 3rd Alarm - 7/10/09 : Aprox. 1710 hrs on July 10th, Marblehead Fire received reports of a structure fire at 6 Captains Walk Ln. Arriving companies found extremely heavy fire conditions along the floor 1 C and D side of a large wood frame house, reported to be worth over 1.5 million dollars, with overlapping fire to the roof and requested the 2nd Alarm immediately and a 3rd shortly after. Fire spread rapidly and due to a stuck hydrant in front of the residence water onto the fire was delayed. Fire would eventually travel along the length of the house on Floor 1, 2 and through the roof, with a partial collapse in the rear of the building and a complete collapse of the garage and 2nd floor above it on the C side. The house was in the middle of a culdesac on a wooded lot which afforded poor access and allowed only 1 aerial ladder to be utilized. Marblehead FD and the responding mutual aide worked hard to place the fire under control and the Marblehead PD was very gracious with access while keeping the crowds back and under control. Lots of pics, played with the settings, mostly shot in manual w/ a few in program mode w/ my flash as fill on some shots. Thanks for looking!

Peabody, MA - Working Fire - 2/17/09 : At approximately 1554hrs Peabody Fire Alarm dispatched Engines 1,3,5,7, Ladder 1 and the Deputy to 57 Warren Ave Ext for a reported structure fire. Company's called off with smoke showing and made the box a working fire. Company's stretched in with 3 handlines and made a knick knock of the fire; Upon my arrival there was no visible fire and very light smoke from the attic area of the 40x20 2 1/2 story wood frame structure, fire was officially placed under control about a half hour later at 1625. A shadowy scene made for some tricky shooting and constantly adjusting settings but I managed to get a handful of decent shots.
